Coyotes Head to Boise for Rematchby Coyote Staff
The Central Valley Coyotes (3-6) will have another chance to knock off the Boise Burn (7-2) this weekend at Qwest Arena in Boise. This will be the second of three meetings the teams will have this season.
The Coyotes are not the same team they were back on April 25th when the Burn came to Fresno and won a nail-biter 45-52. Since then they have lost 11 players including 9 players that were starters. WR George Williams, LB Steve Allen, and WR/LB Joe Taula were lost during the Tri Cities game on May 2nd. Williams and Taula are still on injured reserve and Allen is week to week. Two weeks later in a home game against Arkansas the Coyotes lost QB Jason Murrietta with a separated shoulder, LB Weston Borba with a pulled hamstring, and DL Chris White left the team for personal reasons. Borba and Murrietta have yet to return to the line-up. Against Spokane May 23rd OL Kalavi Blanchard injured a knee and Steve Allen was reinjured and is week to week. Finally, this past weekend against Stockton K Kyle Hooper injured his ankle and has been placed on injured reserve, Lamonte Jones suffered a high ankle sprain and is questionable for this week’s game, OL Donyell Booker injured a hip and is questionable for this weekend’s game, and OL Richard Torrence has left the team for personal reasons.
Despite losing almost half their roster over the course of the month of May the Coyotes feel confident they are starting to gel as a team and are making strides on being an overall better team. “It’s hard to get a good team chemistry going when you are making personnel changes ever week,” stated Coyote head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. “However, we have some players on this team that aren’t going to ‘tap out’ and are giving us 100% every time we take the field. We’re very fortunate to have depth and it’s encouraging to see players on the field getting better as their time has come to step up for the team.”
Boise on the other hand has been the hot team in the Western Division this year and they are on the heels of the 9-0 Spokane Shock for the lead in the Western Division. With a record of 7-2 and 3-1 at Qwest Arena they have out-scored their last three opponents at home 196-86. “Boise has a very good football team. Their staff did a good job recruiting in the off-season and they’re doing a better job coaching those players up on Saturday Nights,” Biletnikoff added. “But none of matters to us, we’re loading that plane with 20 players that don’t care what our record is or what their record is. They just want to go up there to take them right out, in their house, and get back on track to where we feel our team should be.”
The Coyotes return to Selland Arena Saturday June 13, 2009 to face the Florida Firecats. Kick-off is at 7:15pmand tickets are still available.
